WW2 Imperial Japanese Army MG Collimator MG AIMING PERISCOPE VERY RARE
This was used in conjunction with MG and Artillery units. The Imperial Japanese Army Collimator aiming scope was developed for MG and Artillery units, and was used for assisting in measuring horizontal and vertical angles. It was an important sight for initially sighting heavy guns prior to firing. It would be aimed at a distant target (like a church steeple) to get an estimated height angle combined with the properly surveyed angle to the strike area. Used in conjunction with other sighting devices, the distant gunner would use his own optics and point into the direction of the external objective of the collimator, so that in his view, he could see his horizontal line of data superimposed perfectly and magnified properly in the "projected" beam of data coming from the collimator. Once the gun was elevated properly so that his optics were collimated against this sight, he knew his angle of his gun was properly aligned for height and angle.
Made of brass, aluminum, and steel, this 4x thru 11x power ranging scope is a VERY NICE example. Used on conjunction with the Type 92 Machine Gun, it retains approximately 95% original paint and finish, and is 100% complete!
Some slight marks and wear, but nothing that detract. All adjustments work as they should and the optics are EXTREMELY clear, with not marks, spotting, or dust particles!
Manufacture information is clearly stamped onto one side. No cracks, breaks, or damage, and the focus adjustment/ranging scale both still rotate VERY smoothly and correctly! Ranging scale varies between 30 meter and 1500m. VERY RARE item, it would make a PERFECT addition to any collection or display!
