This is a VERY RARE Unique named Death Plaque, to a Royal Marines Light Infantry Casualty. Memorial Plaque, named, JOHN JAMES TOOLEY. J J Tooley served in the Marines with number CH/13005. He enlisted 28th November 1901. His trade was given as'wherryman', (someone who rows passengers in a boat). After many postings he joined HMS Pathfinder on 1st October 1912. On 5th September 1914, Pathfinder was patrolling off the Firth of Forth when it was torpedoed by U Boat U-21, captained by Otto Hersing.

It sunk in four minutes. 18 marines died that day and they are all commemorated on the Chatham naval Memorial. I do not accept offers unless the listing allows it. It will not be reduced, I would rather keep it in my own collection. I cannot accept responsibility for items damaged or lost in the post, however, I always get proof of posting.
