The item is a trivet or tile. The tile measures 4 1/16 square. This tile is 7/16 thick. This tile displays a Cat laying down on a checkerboard quilt. The cat is done in a speckled black cloisonne glaze with the squares on the quilt being done in a light brown mottling with green heavier mottled cloisonne glaze. The subject matter is outstanding as the detail is wonderful. This tile is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. The tile is not signed on the back. In fact there are no marking and leads me to believe this is a very early tile. There is also no border and way to hang it. This leads me to believe it was a trivet. These animal tiles are considered quite rare from Delft with this one being no exception.
