Before the 1947 Royals season was set to begin (but after this roster was printed apparently) Branch Rickey decided to call him up to the Dodgers and break the color barrier. Chuck Connors is also listed on the roster as an infielder. Back then he went by his given name of Kevin Connors. He ended up playing for the Mobile Bears of the Southern Association (also a Brooklyn Dodgers farm club) in 1947 but would join the Montreal Royals of the International League from 1948 to 1950. Chuck would go on to play for the Dodgers in 1949 and the Cubs in 1951.
He also played for the Rochester Royals now the Sacramento Kings in the NBA during the 1945-46 championship season and the newly formed Boston Celtics from 1946-48. Chuck would go on to a very successful Hollywood career as an actor and best known for his lead role on The Rifleman.Of note of a name not listed on here that you would expect. Roy Campanella was the catcher for the 1947 Royals however at the time of printing he must not have been expected to be with them.
This is a rare roster card. The condition is very good... See the photos for more details.
The item is roughly 10.5 long when unfolded. The greeen highlighter is not on the actual roster card, just added to the photos to point out the names. Please contact me with any questions.
