Micrometer Vintage Tool Antique Early Machinist Victorian Ultra Rare Unusual USA

This is an extremely early micrometer. In imperial thousandths (THOUS) of an inch. Probability is that it is an American gauge. The design and font used would suggest it is a very early micrometer.
