Imperial German, WW 1, Very Rare Braunschweig Officer's Feldgrau Visor Cap
Imperial German, Great War, Minty, VERY RARE Braunschweig Infantry Officer's Feldgrau Visor Cap from Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 92 The Duchy of Braunschweig contributed only a handful of Regiments to the Imperial German Army.

The Cap is made of Feldgrau Wool, with a bright red band that measures 1.75 in width. One very thin bright red piping band encircles the top of the cap. Feldgrau Visor Caps are very rare finds at any time and this one is outstanding. Finding a Feldgrau Cap is extra special. The correct Braunschweig State Officer's and Reich Kokarden decorate the Caps front center along with the skull and crossed bones for the Duchy.

The Caps interior is shows a bit of use but is complete. The only flaws are a couple of moth nips (pictured). This Cap is extremely rare from a small Duchy whose Duke Ernest Augustus was married to the Kaiser's only daughter.

Minty Officer's Field Grau Visor Cap from Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 92 which was among the most fabled in the German Army. It was founded in 1809 and Garrisoned in Braunschweig where it was attached to the X, Armeekorps. After it's founding it was sent to Spain where it participated in the Peninsula Campaign under then General Wellington. Due to the number of casualties it suffered it did not participate in the Battle of Waterloo.

Like her Sister Regiment Husaren-Regiment Nr. 17 which did fight at Waterloo under the command of the Black Prince Wilhelm who was killed in action.

Both Regiments carried the dreaded Totenkopf on all their headdresses. Germany was a federation of twenty-seven kingdoms, duchies, principalities and "free and imperial cities". By far the largest of these components was Prussia, whose King also bore the title of German emperor.

Most Uniform Items from this period have some degree of moth tracks. This cap does have a couple detectable moth tracks. The Officer's Belt shown is NOT included in this sale, it is listed separately. This cap is the Crown Jewel of my Cap Collection as it is extremely rare from a small Duchy and Feldgrau Caps in any condition are rare finds.
