Here we have a rarity. The front features a fantastic and colorful image of a Maple Leaf as well as a crown motif. The back has the words The Cowan Co.

Limited Toronto Canada written on the back. This one came with a group of Cowans V15 Canadian Miltia Insignia Cards that I acquired many years ago.

The backs of those cards all state Each Package of Cowans Royal Milk Chocolate contains one of a series of 15 designs illustrating the insignia of the Canadian Militia. As I mentioned earlier this wrapper was found with a smaller group of those cards so it is not a leap to assume this is a wrapper from that era as well. It also should be noted that the font used on the word "Cowans" matches that of the V15 cards. The wrapper measures 5 1/4inches by 2 ½ inches approximately. It does have an edge split and some smaller tears. I have scanned the wrapper and take some pictures showing the side split. For you to be able to judge condition for yourself. The word rare get used often, but I think it really does apply here.

The V15 cards are scarce enough and kids would have probably collected those, but I imagine most of the wrappers would have been thrown out. Not to mention WW1 chocolate rationing would have probably had an affect on production numbers. I doubt many of these survived over the years. I will be trying to list several EARLY TRADE & TYPE CARDS over the next few days.

(spread across different categories), including one or two that are unrecorded in any guide, that were put given away with Tobacco, Cigarettes, Caramel, Candy, Gum, Chocolate, Bread Coffee Tea Cereal and other products, covering such diverse subjects as Native American Indians, Baseball, Football, Boy Scouts, Ice Hockey, Golf, Presidents of the United States, NCAA and IVY League Colleges and Universities, Dog Breeds, Circus themes and many more. It will take you directly to them. This will be mailed from the USA.
